Beetle of life
The Egyptian scarab beetle was an amulet of life and power in Ancient Egypt, representing the rising sun and symbolizing resurrection in Egyptian mythology. In life, it provided protection against evil, visible or invisible, bestowing daily strength and power.
Archaeological excavations in Egypt have unearthed images of scarabs in bone, ivory, stone, Egyptian faience, and precious metals, dating from the Sixth Dynasty to the Roman period.
They are generally small and have holes to allow them to be strung on a necklace, and at the base they bear a short inscription or an Egyptian cartouche.
